I have had xanga's and livejournals but I decided to get a blogspot mainly to post about the next few years.
I'm about to graduate in july from Cortiva-School of Massage Therapy-chicago campus, and I feel like I should start documenting my job process. Also, my boyfriend Nick got into AnimationMentor's summer program, and this is just another way to keep up with what hes working on, not like I won't see it/hear about it 12807408217x a week from him! Hopefully, I find a job, and this animation mentor program is a good thing, I've heard nothing BUT good things about this program. And knowing Nick he is going to spend hours and sleepless nights to turn in the best work he can. I'm glad he found a school that is more specialized for his career path/goals, then staying at a school that has more interest in the student taking the "necessary classes," that have nothing to do with their major, but meh, that's life.
Does anyone have any advice on this school, I've heard about the job placement and how great the program is, but what about how many hours you put into it?, I'm always letting him finish his homework before we even think about going to a movie or something but lately that homework has been for classes having nothing to do with animation!! thank god for AM, at least I know he will be working hard on something he WANTS to do. :D
I'm seriously having insomnia though, I've been up reading through forums and fellow blog posters that either went to AM or are still there..not to be creepy or anything, just making sure the boyfriend isn't making the wrong decision, but I found Teresa, Jeff, Paul and Alexiss's blogs to be very convincing that AM will be a great experience for him.
well, its 4:40am Chicago time and I have lots to do tomorrow...er..today..

Hi Casey,
ReplyDeleteGot your message a few days ago. Sorry I haven't been able to respond any quicker - I got home from Blue Sky and then started my next job almost right away!
Anyway, to answer your questions about AM - a typical week will be very different depending on what term your boyfriend is in. I worked full-time while going through the program, and I had NO animation experience before I started AM, so my experience might be completely different, but here's a basic breakdown:
Term 1: Couple hours per day during the week (say 2-3), plus a few more on Saturdays
Term 2: Still probably 2-3 hours each weeknight, plus maybe 5 on Saturdays
Term 3: This is the term where it started to get crazy for me - 4-5 hours on weeknights, work till 2-3am on Friday nights, and from 8am - 2pm or so on Saturdays
Term 4: 5 hours on weeknights, work through the night on Friday, get a few hours sleep, work all day and all night Saturday.
Term 5: Light schedule as this was the short film planning class. Couple hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and maybe an hour or two on weeknights.
Term 6: The poo flies - all my free time was devoted to finishing the short film.
I've heard they're changing the curriculum, so your boyfriend may not have the whole short film process to go through. But on average, you can expect to get out of the program exactly what you put in.
At any rate, if you or your boyfriend have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm good friends with Teresa and Alexiss too, and we'd all have good advice for you and/or Nick.
Take care!
Jeff
